Emergent w/ Cold Kingdom, Arson City, EAON @ Route 47 Pub & Grub | 5-24-2019

Friday, May 24th. Route 47 Pub & Grub is bustling with locals and rockers alike. Memorial Day Weekend 2019 was kicked off in glorious fashion! Ushering in the season of summer, local hard rock bands Emergent, Cold Kingdom and EAON with special out of towner Arson City out of Omaha, Nebraska. To the right of the “L” shaped venue, a large stage is set far enough back to provide ample room to dance, mosh, and enjoy the music as well as grab a seat, a slice, and a pint. All while still having a clear line of sight to the performers. When you enter to the left is a myriad of merch from all 4 acts as well as seating and games for those who may not be interested in the show.

EAON was the opening act and this trio brought their style of hard rock to the stage along with the energy and presence of seasoned performers. Blayne Sovia, Kyle Glidden and Evan Stueve formed EAON in January 2018. With a small catalog to choose from and with a fresh new video “87 Seconds”, EAON held their own as an up and coming act in the Twin Cities local music scene.

Arson City stormed into town with one purpose: shock and awe. The music, the costumes, the makeup, the stage presence, and interactivity during their set stood out, which, if I were them, would have been exactly my plan. They were visually and aurally entertaining. Their cover of Journey’s “Separate Ways” had the crowd belting out the chorus in sync and left a mark on everyone in attendance. Arson City stole the show in my opinion.

Arson City was a tough act to follow but Cold Kingdom held their own as third on the bill and did not disappoint. They released  “Into The Black Sky”, their third studio album earlier that day and the members of Cold Kingdom were clearly feeding off of the energy of that release as well as the energy the previous acts conjured. They took all that in and performed a well-polished setlist with old and new material alike. Read more about Cold Kingdom.

Emergent dropped their first new song in years, “Plastic People” just hours before taking the stage. There was a spark in the air as they played through their catalog of hard-hitting, crisp sounding hits as the crowd sang along at the tip tops of their lungs.  This was my third time seeing Emergent and much like past shows, they played tight, kept the crowd involved and entertained all while enjoying the experience themselves. Peter Ogrodnik was absent from this line-up, but his replacement made it seem as though nothing had changed. Emergent closed out the evening with high energy hits and left the crowd wanting more.
